I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read on the train. – Oscar Wilde
Part of the goal of this Experiment is to make you look at your goals holistically. But, I also hope to make you, well, work on your goals. We did some navel gazing on week 10. We did some magic for week 11. Now, it’s time to get back to the physical work.
I keep talking about breaking down your goals into small pieces. This week is about putting your money where your mouth is. I want you to keep a daily journal. In it, talk about what you’ve done that day to accomplish your goal(s). If you didn’t do something towards your goals, examine your reasons why. Were you really that busy or could you have taken a half hour to work towards your goals? What stopped you from making your goals a priority?
If there are days when you don’t do something that moves you closer to your goal, be sure to journal about what stopped you from getting there. This might be a good week to contemplate a phrase that’s often used in matters of the heart: Never make someone a priority when you’re only an option.
Have you made you an option instead of a priority? If so, it’s time to make yourself a priority so you can accomplish the things you want to accomplish.
Sometimes, it can be easy to disregard the connection between the magic and the mundane. Think about this: We all know people in the magical community who are very magically talented with a certain level of cache in the community. But, despite this talent, they still don’t have their shit together in their mundane life. They’re often behind on bills, not saving for their future. They have messy love lives and other assorted aspects that you attribute to
someone who has problems being successful. Do you now take their advice or books with a large grain of salt? No one’s perfect. We all have problems. But, there are problems and there are PROBLEMS. To be frank, when someone has PROBLEMS, it’s harder for me to take their magical advice seriously. I then think to myself: If they’re so magically talented, why is X a mess?
X is usually a mess not so much due to magical ineptitude (though it’s sometimes a factor) but due to mundane life ineptitude. The magical and the mundane become much like the chicken and the egg. It’s hard to say which one came first. But, you need one to have the other.
Cheers!
