[Scenes from a Pagan Household] Vacation Edition

Deb and Jow are walking on a beach.  They have been trespassing here (along with the forbidden doggos) all week which makes it more satisfying for getting some steps in and collecting shells and driftwood for future projects.

Jow: It would be cool to find a hag stone.

Deb: That’s the stone with a natural hole in it, right?

Jow: Yeah, for protection.

Deb: I guess a shell wouldn’t count.  I have lots of those.

Jow: Nah, it has to be a stone.

Deb: Okay, well, here’s a giant pile of small stones.  Sift through, see if you have any luck.

Much to Deb’s surprise, Jow gamely crouches down and runs his hands gingerly through the stones to look.

Deb: Any luck?

Jow: Sadly, no.

Deb: Did you do this a lot as a kid?

Jow: Oh noooooo.

Deb: Yeah, it shows.  This would be a fantastic thing to have a little kid like Nephew do.  We’d have to set the bribe high-

Jow: But then it wouldn’t work.  You have to find it.

Deb: It’s not for that, duh.  We’d string it and put it on the kid and give him a twenty if he happened to find one.  But what it’s actually for is to buy several hours of peace.  That’s why the bribe has to be high.  Motivation.

Jow: Ooooooooooh.  That makes sense.  Good plan.
