[Manic Mondays] An Arte of Glamour Board

The Arte of Glamour is available for purchase through Amazon in paperback and Kindle formats.

The Arte of Glamour has a mission: to help you find sustainable wonder in yourself, your spiritual practice and your life. Written with a dry wit and a keen understanding gained from years of working with magical ritual, the salt of the earth suggestions will encourage you to delve deeper into your ritual practice. Filled with tips, tricks, spells, a ritual format and a small book of spirits, The Arte of Glamour insists on beauty as something important in both spirituality and everyday life. Foreword by Gordon White.

It would be nice to pretend that writing is glamorous, wouldn’t it?  I stopped writing anything but journaling for a couple years before I met Jow.  After I met him, I had a dream I wanted to write about and he suggested making it ritualized by finding a manual typewriter and sending him the pages which he would correct in red pen and send back.  I looked for one and eventually I found an indie office supply store that had old typewriters.  The lady looked at me like I was crazy, wanting a manual typewriter and ribbon but I loved it.  It made me fall in love with writing again, using a paper thesaurus and dictionary, remembering what it’s like to type and have something committed to the page, remembering how to use white out.  He corrected my pages and we fell in love.  True story.

If you want to write as a profession, you can’t really use a manual anymore but it’s great for when you get stuck.  It’s nice to pretend that my writing process was like the board below, even for a moment instead of the reality — the sobbing from the exhaustion of working a full time job and trying to make it as a crafter and writer besides, being covered in baby fluid, trying to write everything during naps, my unwashed hair, my ratty sweats.  It’s easy to fall in love with the aesthetic of being a writer, it’s v. romantic!  Like most things though, the day to day less so.  Since my next project will require Skyping, I will be working harder to bring more glamour to the writing process and trying to keep my every day beautiful.  Even if it’s just a new pretty teacup.
