Ten years ago, I started making Goddess Dollies out of felt. I thought somehow that I could make enough doing so in an incredibly teensy tiny niche to quit my job. It didn’t happen, but that’s when I started doing Pagan events and Cons as a merchant.
I’ve always wanted to revive the Goddess Dollies line, but the truth is that they were labor intensive to make, space intensive for all their materials and then space intensive to have my sewing machine out. Also, I’m not a super patient seamstress. I get aggravated when it doesn’t do what I want it to do and yell at the sewing machine while Jow looks on in horror and confusion as to why I think yelling at a machine is going to change anything.
I can felt anywhere and it’s not very space intensive. So on a whim, I decided to see how I liked making Waldorf school style needle felted Goddess Dollies. I really enjoyed doing their hair, making their little dresses, felting herbs into their hearts and making little details for them.
I also realized that not everyone has a lot of space in their home or altar for a doll. My needle felted dolls are now only about six inches tall, perfect for altars large and small and perfect for one’s bedside. I’ve never made faces on the dolls because I feel the face of God Herself is a very personal thing and I continued that tradition from my first line along with the dolls having herbs inside them.
The arms are poseable and the dolls are made completely out of wool, with some wire in the arms to help you pose them. Each doll is one of a kind and which dolls I have in stock will depend on mood and popularity.
