I’m pretty sure Gordon told me not to name my shop La Sirene et Le Corbeau and if he didn’t directly, all the branding material he gave me to read and YouTube videos I watched said so implicitly. The thing is, almost no one can say it, literally no one knows what it means despite my handy logo with a mermaid and a crow proudly perched on it which led me to believe no one remembers it. Oh I tried. I dug my heels in for four years about it because I’m nothing if not stubborn. But a month or two ago, it finally sunk into my nanny-addled brain while watching Bethenny’s talk show. Now, for those of you who try not to watch CIA television, let me fill you in. Bethenny used to be a Real Housewife of NY but before that, she was on a business competition show. During her spin off reality show, she launched herself into a juggernaut with Skinnygirl. I mean, she’s going through a messy divorce now and her talk show got canceled, but still. Girl turned her brand into $120M so I’m going to listen during her “Bethenny in Your Business” segments. The thing she said the most was the name is wrong so finally, since this is the time of year I deal with business things that I don’t want to deal with, I decided to finally bite the bullet and officially change the name.
I’m only doing this once because it is a colossal pain in the ass and it’s also expensive. I’m looking at it as a penance to pay. Luckily, I had the bones down really well so it’s really just a name change. The old name will still direct you to the shop, but you may want to update to The Mermaid and The Crow. There’s a new Facebook page too. My Twitter is still the same as is my Tumblr.
